Sledgehammer's CoD is going to be an FPS.

With the fall of Infinity Ward, Activision has put the fate of the Call of Duty franchise in the hands of a few different developers. When they had revealed that Sledgehammer would be doing one, Activision had initially said the game will, "extend the franchise into the action adventure genre." But apparently it is up to the developer to tweak the gameplay in whatever way they feel, so the end result will be a First-Person Shooter title, much like the others in the franchise.

Some job postings on the official Sledgehammer website say, "We are actively recruiting top talent for our Call Of Duty First Person Shooter development team." Unfortunately, not all of the available positions have the same phrasing. Sledgehammer has a posting for a senior sound designer says that the team will be creating an, "Action title in the Call Of Duty franchise."

It'll probably look a lot like this.

It is still unclear whether or not the First-Person Shooter will be the same game as the confirmed Action Adventure game Sledgehammer was reported as doing. According to Gamespot, none of the Activision press representatives returned requests for any clarification at press time, so we'll have to wait and see what goes on.
