Games of the Wild West - Part 2

Now for another Game of the Wild West! This time we're looking at a First-Person Western Adventure.

That game is Ubisoft's Call of Juarez!

Call of Juarez is a story told from two separate perspectives in the Old West. The first is young Billy Candle who is of Native American blood. He returns home from a long search for the fabled "Gold of Juarez" which was said to be the ransom gold for King Montezuma to find his parents murdered. He is blamed for the death by his uncle, the Reverend Ray, who was once a notorious gunslinger and is no a man of the cloth, on a mission from God to purge the West of sin. Billy sets out to find the real murderers and clear his name, while the Reverend is hot on his tale, looking to avenge the death of his brother.

What makes the game interesting, is that each character has a unique playstyle. Billy is a mix between stealth and First Person platforming (Frustrating platforming.) You use Billy's whip to cross between platforms, scale objects and the like.

Playing as Ray is where the game gets more interesting. Playing as the Reverend is your classic First-Person action, although Ray does get some unique abilities of his own. Ray is able to go into a bullet-time mode and waste all enemies on screen while duel-wielding his pistols. Ray also has access to probably the most badass weapon in all of existence. The Bible. You use the Bible to preach to your enemies so they either A)Drop their weapons and flee. B)Are distracted, then you blow their brains out. As Ray you also get into quickdraw duels with a variety of scoundrels, which adds a neat little challenge into the game as well.

Duel-wielding on a horse. That's hella-badass.

Call of Juarez has some fun gameplay and pretty awesome storyline. Those Polish fellows at Techland also managed to get the Western feel down right. So go play it! Right now!

Also, since this IS a tribute to Red Dead Redemption after all, we should tell you about the Red Dead Redemption Facebook Application! Red Dead Redemption: Gunslingers. Check it out!
