Evelyn Salt (Angelina Jolie) is a CIA agent who has come through a lot of physical and emotional pain in her life, but they’re nothing compared to what’s coming. During an interrogation, a Russian informant tells the CIA that the President of Russia is the target of an assassin…her. Salt tells her co-workers that the man is lying, but when she flees their persistent questions, they begin to think otherwise.
Steadily, throughout the movie, the viewers begin to explore the motives of Evelyn. This makes the story very much a character study, but it really doesn’t go any further than motives. We don’t get much glimpse into her personality, her marriage is touched upon, but little else.
Salt is designed in the same vein as the Jason Bourne series when it comes to the camera styles and similar concept, but aside from fighting skills, Evelyn doesn’t bring herself to the same level. Everything in this film pushes for such greatness but only finds itself reaching halfway from the stunts to the suspense.
What the story delivers is a basic plot for the viewer, with a couple of twists and turns along the way. You’ll get more than you expected with a movie like Salt, but not alot more.
