Retronexus: Streets of Rage

From 1991 comes the super Badass, Streets of Rage! The Sega Genesis game brings three street fighting badasses, who set out to fight crime in the over-run streets of their Metropolitan City.

This isn't Avenue of Anger, it's Sreets of RAGE!

You play as either Adam Hunter, the ex-cop and accomplished boxer, Axel Stone, an ex-cop and skilled martial artist, or Blaze Fielding, another ex-cop and Judo master... Notice something here?

Similar to the Sega-released game Golden Axe, Streets of Rage (SoR) is a side-scrolling Beat 'Em Up game where you kill the enemies as they come into the screen and must kill them all before you can progress in the level to the next group of enemies. The special attack for the players is to call in a police car who will fire a large amount of explosives onto your enemies killing nearly all enemies who are in the screen.

The sounds are extra fun in SoR. There is an excellent sound track of fast techo-grooves that will make you wanna open up a can of whoop ass on those generic bad guys who feel like attacking you. Also there are the painful screams of your enemies when they are defeated. If the player should choose to play as Adam, they will be greeted with a fantastic, smile-causing "BOOYAH!" when doing the jump attack.

Streets of Rage in recent years has been re-released on many modern platforms lately. These include the Wii's Virtual Console in 2007, the iPod Touch and iPhone in 2009, and it was included in Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection in 2009 for the Xbox 360 and PS3 as well. Check it out!
