Indie Friday - June 11th, 2010

Indie games and retro have this strange tendency to go together like Peanut Butter and Bananas, it feels natural. That would explain why I love them so much. Since I'm lazy, we're going to talk about a single game today, one that's both indie and ball-bustingly retro.

Hydorah

Brought to us by the Spanish Indie Sorcerers Locomalito, Hydorah is possibly the most Retro SHMUP that wasn't originally released back in 1994. The game is a horizontal shooter, and will draw comparisons to the Konami Classic, Gradius. The game plays smoothly and has a difficulty that sometimes borders on Keyboard smashing. That's how you know it's Old-school. The game also has some fantastic visuals, a soundtrack that can only be described as Bitchin' and some voice acting that's high on the ridiculousity scale. Locomalito put 3 years of work into this game and it clearly shows. Make sure you go here and download this sucker!
