Penelope Cruz in Pirates of the Caribbean 4

With the fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise preparing to leave port, executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer reveals in an interview with MTV News the role that newcomer Penelope Cruz will portray.

"She's the daughter of the bad guy," he said. "She brings a lot of humor to it. And the fact that she's so feisty."

Bruckheimer continues on that Cruz's character will be the love interest to Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp). Naturally, one would have to wonder just whose daughter Sparrow will be charming with his witty personality.

"We have a new villain, Blackbeard, who is the nastiest pirate ever," Bruckheimer said. "Ian McShane's playing that."

McShane will be joining the Cruz, Depp and Geoffery Rush for the film, and other roles are in the process of being cast. Bruckheimer said the plot of the film will pick off from the end of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End where Sparrow heads off to find the Fountain of Youth.

"It's a continuation of what you saw last time," he said. "(Sparrow's) in search for the Fountain of Youth. We're going to take a whole new direction."

Filming for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is planned to begin June, in Hawaii.
